Web 2.0 is YOU!

1. How will emerging technology (ie: blogs, videos, e-readers,e-books) affect literacy?

As technology advances, it will either affect the literacy in a bad or a good way.  Texting, msn or any technology that keeps you away from a face to face conversation is not good.  The technology keeps us away from a real conversation and as time passes we will not know how to have a real conversation or keep a conversation going.  It will be awkward and eventually we will not know how to speak to one another  to keep a conversation going.  It also affects our vocabulary since many teenagers and even adults use short forms so they wouldn't know have to write as much and it is much faster so our vocabulary will decrease and it will get worse and worse.  I agree that having these technologies can be a benefit to us in certain ways depending on how you use it.  For example if you were somewhere and you needed to know something right there and you didn't have a computer.  Then the technology would be useful but in ways of communicating, I think its a negative affect.

2. How is Web 2.0 challenging us to "rethink ourselves" (ie: friendships, work, education, community, family etc...)?

Web 2.0 is challenging us to "rethink ourselves"  because with new technology coming out every year, we will need to learn how to use them and when the proper time to use them is.  Everyone is all hooked up with the new technology that we are slowly losing contact with our social lives.  People are starting to interact more with their computer and are more into what's going on on their computers then they're own social life.  Web 2.0 is challenging us to rethink which priorities should come first in our life and what is more important.

  1. I agree with your points. Technology can easily take us away from proper conversations with people. Too many electronic conversations can attach you to technology really easily. Good job with the post!
